2011 Planning Institute of B.C. Award for Excellence in Planning Practice

EcoPlan and the Musqueam Indian Band were acknowledged for this award for We Are of One Heart and Mind: Musqueam Comprehensive Community Plan. The culmination of five years of planning work, We Are of One Heart and Mind is the community’s guiding plan; the plan clearly illustrates how Musqueam will become a self-sufficient, self-governing Nation and a sustainable and healthy community. William Trousdale, Dr. Robin Gregory and Dr. Tim McDaniels were recognized for their work on non-market valuation approaches to cultural losses. This work developed and refined a new approach to help aboriginal communities address the issue of environmental damages, supporting negotiations and mediations as well as being tested in the courts. EcoPlan, UN-HABITAT and Compass Resource Management were acknowledged for this award for developing a planning manual that employs a value-based strategic planning processes to help solve the complex issues of climate change adaptation and mitigation. Canadian Institute of Planners 2007 Award for Planning Excellence in Economic Development

Working with UN-Habitat, EcoPlan was awarded the 2007 CIP Award for Planning in Economic Development for the guide series Promoting Economic Development Through Strategic Planning. The training series presents an innovative method for helping local governments face the challenges, opportunities and growing responsibilities in addressing the economic health of local areas while ensuring integration with other ongoing social and environmental sustainability initiatives. For more information on this project, please click here.

Travel and Tourism Research Association Boeing Award

EcoPlan received this award in 1996 for a project entitled “Sustainable Tourism Planning with Multiple Objective Decision Analysis: A Case Study of the Guimara Farm Tourism Pilot Project.”

EcoTourism Showcase 2000 Award

The EcoTourism Showcase award recognizes excellence in organizations supporting ecotourism in the Americas. EcoPlan was a contributor to the project which one this award for work in the Maquipucuna Reserve, an 11,000-acre private reserve founded in 1988 to protect one of the last remaining patches of cloud forest in northwestern Ecuador. This ecotourism project was implemented in association with the Fundación Maquipucuna, a local conservation organization, as an alternative to resource depletion.
