Alberta Métis Oral History & Traditional Land Use Project

The General Council of the Métis Settlements of Alberta retained EcoPlan as a technical support partner following the R v. Powley legal decision...

EcoPlan has unique experience in conducting First Nations and Métis traditional use studies. Traditional use studies document historical communities, traditional land uses and territorial boundaries by creating detailed maps and analyses based on traditional knowledge. We are extremely capable historical researchers and are recognized for our structured, participatory research methods. Our innovative approach employs and integrates a wide range of research methodologies, including personal interviews, archival and historical records research, GIS databases, GPS mapping and other new technologies. The information resulting from this work helps our clients be more involved in land use, physical planning and resource management of traditional lands.
